Bamboo

Bamboo coffins is where it all started for Ecoffins. Our bamboo coffins are handmade in the traditional style, woven from sustainable split bamboo, manufactured by our Fair Trade company in China. As the fastest growing plant on the planet, Bamboo is a highly sustainable and renewable material and one of the most environmentally friendly.

Bamboo ECO 2

The Bamboo eco2 is made using a combination of soft bamboo and bamboo bark hand woven, using traditional methods, around a modern solid interior construction. As the fastest growing plant on the planet, Bamboo is a highly sustainable and renewable material and one of the most environmentally friendly. The Bamboo eco2 is a new take on our traditional bamboo coffins featuring a more decorative weave, along with rope handles and discreet lid fixings for greater functionality, to create a sleeker more modern looking coffin.

Bamboo Lattice

The Bamboo Lattice coffin is constructed of two different layers of woven bamboo to give it a distinctive pattern. A criss-cross pattern of stripped bamboo bark covers an intricately woven layer of soft bamboo creating a striking contrast. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, growing up to a metre per day and absorbs more CO2for its weight than any other plant.

Pandanus

Our Pandanus coffins are made in Indonesia in only World Fair Trade Organisation accredited workshops, making a real difference to the lives of the local people. The pandanus coffins are made from the leaves of a prolific growing plant, a provider of a highly renewable and sustainable material. The dried leaves are being twisted into cord using traditional methods, then woven and coiled around a natural cane framework. Rattan is also woven into the coffins’ design to create a striking lightweight contrast against the silvery colour of the Pandanus.

Willow HighSted & Cromer

Our Cromer and Highsted Willow coffins are handcrafted from the sustainable willow using traditional methods. The willow is woven onto a self-supporting frame, which gives the coffins exceptional strength whilst at the same time remaining incredibly light. These coffins are manufactured in the EU using cottage industry methods, in which people work in their own homes to create these products. The round ended Cromer and the traditional shaped Highsted both come in two different colours (light and natural).

Willow ECO 2

The Willow eco2 is made from a combination of natural willow hand woven, using traditional methods, around a modern solid interior construction. Willow can be harvested annually, from the same plant, for over 40 years making it a highly renewable and sustainable material for coffins compared to solid wood from trees which can take 30 to 60 years to mature. The Willow eco2 features a decoratively plaited willow edge to the lid line with rope handles and discreet lid fixings for a streamlined look.

Cardboard Coffins

Our economical cardboard coffins are made of at least 70% recycled paper and wood pulp sourced from reputable sustainable forests. Constructed to a special design, these coffins can carry up to 23 stone in weight. Our basic cardboard coffins come in three different appearances, all supplied with natural rope handles. The white coffin can also be chosen in a different single colour. Just let your funeral director know which colour you would like. All our cardboard coffins are 100% biodegradable, as no plastic is used when making these.
